Lagoon 46 (2019-Date)

Overview

The Lagoon 46 was launched in 2019 to replace the incredibly popular Lagoon 450 which had almost 1,000 hulls built.  Designed by Lagoon’s sole architects, VPLP Design & Patrick le Quément, with interiors by Nauta, the Lagoon 46 follows swiftly behind a remodelled fifty footer, embracing Lagoon’s (Beneteau Group’s) latest focus on “the boat of your dreams” and “real estate on the water”.

The hulls are deeper and wider providing extra living space below; the saloon has headroom of over 6′ throughout. Latest Lagoon models offer options for every conceivable home comfort including air conditioning, supplemental refrigeration and ice maker, washing machine and dishwasher.

By moving the mast further back, Lagoon has been able to shorten the boom for easier management of a (more efficient) higher aspect ratio mainsail and introduce a self-tacking jib. This centres the mass, reducing the pitching motion going into the waves, and makes such a big vessel easy to sail, even short handed.

The Lagoon 46 was the winner of the Asia Boating’s Best Sailing Multihull award in 2019.

It’s not clear how many of these models have been produced so far.

Design & Build

Build Structure, Techniques & Materials

Solid FRP laminate below the waterline and resin-infused balsa-cored sandwich above. Lagoon has fully embraced the latest vacuum manufacturing techniques to minimise its carbon footprint through the reduced amount of materials and limited waste, minimise the weight and optimise the strength given by the resin to matrix ratio.

Interior woodwork uses a recycled wood composite which is not only light but durable.

Resale Values

There are currently (Aug 2023) 60 used boat listings for a Lagoon 46 on Yachtworld.com, Boats.com, BandofBoats.com and BoatTrader.com with prices ranging from €685,000 to €1.1m

Those boats with charter use are at the lower end of the scale; those with very little use and a high specification are able to achieve higher prices due to their instant availability against an order time of 2-3 years for a new vessel.

Depreciation Curve

A 2020 model would have cost €780,000 with all factory fitted options.  This sum, allowing for inflation would now be worth €968,477 or USD $1.06m.

BUC Value gives an average valuation for a 2020 model in fair condition for its age as USD $813,000.

A 2020 model on the market today is listed between €685,000 ($749,807) and €950,000 ($1.04m).

Depending on the specification of the vessel (the number of factory fitted options and any subsequent upgrades) these figures would suggest the depreciation on a 2020 model of approximately 23% over the last 3 years (Spend adjusted for inflation cf. BUC Value).
