As indicated in our post here, Marine Surveyor Organisations play a key role in establishing and maintaining the quality of surveys carried out in a marine market which is constantly changing and evolving.
In Europe, a federation has been set up to represent a number of organisations felt to fit the bill for membership, and it gives a voice to the needs of the marine surveying industry in the European Parliament.
Organisations under FEMAS:
Verband Deutscher Schiffahrtssachverständiger (VDSS)
Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and Ship Surveyors (SCMS)
Hellenic Marine Technical Consultants Association (HMTCA)
Dutch Institute of Registered Experts (NIVRE)
Collège Européen des Experts Maritimes et Fluviaux (CEEMF)
Fédération Internationale Experts & Conseils Maritimes (FIEM)
Other organisations exist in Europe and the rest of the world which meet similar standards for Marine Surveyors with other routes to input at a wider level. For example, the UK’s IIMS has a global reach with offshoots in Asia and India, and its close links to the British Maritime and Coastguard Agency mean that it plays on a larger playing field.
